How to install Claude Skills
A Claude Skill is a markdown file — a SKILL.md with a description and a brief. You can paste one into Claude.ai in five minutes with no install, or put all eight on your computer for Claude Code with one command. Pick whichever is easier; you can change later.
Which install path?
- Claude.ai Projects — a Claude.ai account. Best for non-technical committee members.
- npx — Node.js 18+. The quickest install for Claude Code.
- Claude Code plugin — Git + Claude Code. Namespaced, managed via
/plugin. - Git clone — Git + Claude Code. For developers who want full control.
- Desktop app / IDE extension — Git + the Claude Code desktop app or VS Code / JetBrains extension.
- ZIP download — a web browser. No tools needed.
The npx, plugin and git paths run git clone against the public repository, so you need Git installed; a free GitHub account avoids rate limits. The Claude.ai path needs neither.
Option 1 — Claude.ai Projects (no install, no terminal)
- Go to claude.ai and sign in.
- Click Projects in the left sidebar, then Create Project.
- Name it after your event and role, e.g. “TechSummit 2026 — Sponsorship”.
- Open the project instructions (the pencil icon next to “Project instructions”, or Project Settings).
- Open the skill you want — raw files:
- conference-general-chair/SKILL.md — Conference Chair
- conference-program-chair/SKILL.md — Program Director
- conference-sponsorship-lead/SKILL.md — Head of Sponsorship
- conference-marketing-comms/SKILL.md — CMO
- conference-venue-logistics/SKILL.md — Head of Operations
- conference-finance-registration/SKILL.md — CFO
- conference-attendee-experience/SKILL.md — Chief Experience Officer
- conference-vibe-coder/SKILL.md — Head of Web
- Copy everything and paste it into the project instructions box.
- Click Save. Every new conversation in that project now uses that skill.
Create one project per role, or combine several skill files into one project.
Option 2 — One command with npx (Claude Code)
Works on Mac, Windows and Linux. Requires Node.js 18+.
npx @msg2ai/conference-team-skills installThe installer clones the skills into ~/.claude/skills/conference-team-skills/ and they're immediately available in Claude Code. Other commands:
npx @msg2ai/conference-team-skills list # See all 8 skills
npx @msg2ai/conference-team-skills update # Update to the latest version
npx @msg2ai/conference-team-skills uninstall # Remove the skillsPublished on npm as @msg2ai/conference-team-skills.
Option 3 — Claude Code plugin
Plugins are namespaced and can be managed with the /plugin command inside Claude Code.
git clone https://github.com/msg2ai/conference-team-skills.git
claude --plugin-dir ./conference-team-skillsSkills are then available as namespaced commands, e.g. /conference-team-skills:conference-sponsorship-lead.
Option 4 — Git clone (manual)
- Install Claude Code if you don't have it yet (requires Node.js 18+):
npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code - Clone the skills into your Claude skills directory (Mac / Linux / Git Bash):
Windows PowerShell:git clone https://github.com/msg2ai/conference-team-skills.git ~/.claude/skills/conference-team-skillsgit clone https://github.com/msg2ai/conference-team-skills.git "$env:USERPROFILE\.claude\skills\conference-team-skills" - Verify — you should see eight
conference-*folders:ls ~/.claude/skills/conference-team-skills/ - Open Claude Code and type a natural prompt, e.g. “Plan the conference timeline — our event is September 15, 500 attendees”. Claude picks up the matching skill automatically, or invoke one directly with
/conference-general-chair.
Option 5 — Claude Code desktop app or IDE extension
Clone the repo into ~/.claude/skills/conference-team-skills as in Option 4, then open Claude Code in the desktop app or your VS Code / JetBrains extension. Skills are detected automatically from ~/.claude/skills/ — no additional configuration.
Option 6 — Download as ZIP (no Git)
- Download the ZIP (or on GitHub click Code → Download ZIP).
- Extract it.
- For Claude Code, move the extracted folder to
~/.claude/skills/conference-team-skills. For Claude.ai, open anySKILL.mdin a text editor and paste it into your project instructions.
Using the skills in Codex or Cursor
Each SKILL.md is plain markdown, so other AI coding tools can use it as a system prompt. In OpenAI's Codex CLI, copy it into your project as AGENTS.md:
git clone https://github.com/msg2ai/conference-team-skills.git ~/conference-team-skills
cp ~/conference-team-skills/conference-sponsorship-lead/SKILL.md ./AGENTS.mdIn Cursor, save each skill as a project rule:
mkdir -p .cursor/rules
curl -L -o .cursor/rules/sponsorship.mdc \
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/msg2ai/conference-team-skills/main/conference-sponsorship-lead/SKILL.mdConnect your tools (optional)
The skills work without any integrations. To let Claude send emails, check calendars, manage projects and read documents, run the setup scripts from the repo in Claude Code (bash setup/setup-all.sh picks interactively), or in Claude.ai go to Settings → Integrations and connect Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Zoom, Canva or Vercel. Updating
- Git or npx install:
cd ~/.claude/skills/conference-team-skills && git pull - ZIP: download it again and replace the old folder.
- Claude.ai: copy the updated
SKILL.mdfrom GitHub and paste it into your project instructions again.
Troubleshooting
- “git: command not found” — Git isn't installed. On Mac run
xcode-select --install(orbrew install git); on Windows download it from git-scm.com; on Linux use your package manager. - “npm: command not found” — Node.js isn't installed. Download the LTS version from nodejs.org, then reopen your terminal.
- Skills not showing up in Claude Code — check
ls ~/.claude/skills/conference-team-skills/conference-general-chair/SKILL.md; each skill folder needs aSKILL.mdwithname:anddescription:frontmatter. Restart Claude Code after cloning. - Permission denied (Mac/Linux) — run
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skillsfirst, then clone again. - Windows: path too long — in an Administrator PowerShell run
git config --global core.longpaths true.
